This light, responsive racer is equipped with quality Shimano STI gearing and is a must have for anyone considering serious road riding, looking for an ultra-fast commuter, entering triathlons or simply looking to improve their fitness.

Key features of the Aquila:

  • Shimano STI integrated brake and gear levers make for easy control at speed.
  • Aggressive race geometry on a lightweight 6061 alloy frame that is suitable for a wide range of riding - from super fast commuting, triathlon, criterium racing, road racing to endurance events.
  • The compact double crankset and 7-speed cassette gives a wide, evenly spaced gear range.
  • Lightweight Alex DA16 Double-wall alloy wheelset for quick takeoffs and fast rolling

The Aquila also looks the part! With a stealthy matte black finish, this bike will turn heads.

What is STI?
Shimano Total Integration (STI). This is when the brake and gear levers are built into one package, and you don’t have to move your hands off the brake levers to change gears.

Pushing the brake lever sideways shifts the gears in one direction. A small lever on the inside of the hood of the levers shifts the gears in the other direction. This makes it easier to change gears quickly and accurately, without moving your hands away from the handlebars. This helps you stay in control of the bike while braking and shifting.

Reid Aquila STI: Value and quality embodied Review by Brian
Being a first time cyclist, I can safely say that the Reid Aquila STI Road Bicycle is an excellent choice as an entry level bicycle for a first time road cyclist. The ride and gear shifting is smooth, the matte black finish is excellent and the price is extremely reasonable for a road bicycle of its calibre.

Many entry level Giant and Specialized Road bikes have equal or lesser quality of Shimano groupsets than the Aquila charging twice the price. I would definitely recommend the Reid Aquila as an excellent entry-level bicycle!

Great value for its price Review by Nick
The bike is a great bike for the weekend rides and the commute to school or work. It is a bit limited when it comes to gears and a bit heavy weighing around 14kg but it is alloy. I am currently running Maxxis Re-Fuse 700c x 25 and they are great with comfort and rolling speed. Shimano Claris braze on front derailleur and a Shimano Tourney shifters and rear derailleur, TekTro brakes. Great for entry level riders and people who are new to the sport. (Posted on 5/10/2016)
Great Bike Review by Steven
Had this bike on my wishlist for almost 6 months. Didnt know much about road bikes, shopped around, and read reviews. Purchased the Aquila 2015 online when Reid Bikes had a sale on .Arrived in 2 Days. Assembled myself, use this bike Mon-Fri short ride to work and 30km-50km on weekends without any problems, after 300km took bike in for service (Nth Melb) came back even better smooth gear changeing and braking. Love my Bike. (Posted on 30/09/2016)
Exceptional value for money Review by DN
This was my first entry level road bike which I bought in December 2015. I am 184cm and bought the large frame which fit me well. Bike assembly was relatively easy following the manual but I did need some further instructional advice on calibrating the gears on youtube. The black matte finish gives it quite an elegant touch and some onlookers have mistaken it for an expensive road machine!

The Kenda tyres that come with it are pretty ordinary and I actually received a puncture during a 30km ride after owning the bike for 3 weeks. My advice would be to swap these out for something better - I went with the Schwalbe Durano Plus for the puncture protection and long-term durability.

I used this bike during the 2016 Amy's Big Bike Ride in Canberra on the 68km course. It was more than adequate and I could actually comfortably ride quicker than others on higher end bikes like Cannondales, Trek, etc. Cat 4 and 5 hill climbs can be done relatively easily but Cat 3 climbs can be a bit of a grind as you can quickly run out of gears - Mt Ainslie (which ramps up to 12% gradient in some areas) was a challenge to complete.

While I have since upgraded to a carbon bike, I still would recommend the Aquila as an excellent entry road bike. I am still using this for commuting to work and it has seem me through some harsh weather (rain, storms, etc) and poor road conditions. Very reliable bike and great value.

Jaw droppingly good, Jaw droppingly cheap Review by HNC
When i was look ing for a bike a few months back the prices were quite high for a road bike or even a commuter. ( around $800-1000) then i look at reid cycles and found the aquila. My jaw dropped when i had a look at the bike and especially its price. I bought it and when riding it i overtook people with bikes twice the price. (Posted on 20/10/2015)
Great value for money and lots to like at this price range Review by Adam Tan
The Aquila's come a long way since its humble inception - now it has STI shifters and an amazing matte black paintjob (which attracted me to it even more!). For under $500, you get a reasonably decent Tourney + Claris mix and other entry-level parts, which aren't super flashy but they are more than capable at this price. I switched the stock wheels to Mavic Aksiums and they feel a lot better. Also the stock Kenda tyres are average at best and have no puncture protection, so I changed those to Continental Gatorskins (all of the above you can buy from Reid). Overall, a great buy and I can't wait to do many kms on my first road bike! (Posted on 17/06/2015)
