The Aquila is hands down Australia's best value STI Road Bike (more about STI below). This light, responsive racer is equipped with quality Shimano gearing and is a must have for anyone considering serious road riding, looking for an ultra-fast commuter, entering triathlons or simply looking to improve their fitness.
Key features of the Aquila:
- Shimano STI integrated brake and gear levers make for easy control at speed.
- The compact double crankset and 7-speed cassette gives a wide, evenly spaced gear range.
- This is definitely the best value road bike in Australia under $550.
The Aquila also looks the part! With a stealthy matte black finish, this bike will turn heads and you’ll feel great riding it.
As mentioned above, its Australia’s best value STI Road Bike, which stands for Shimano Total Integration (STI). This is when the brake and gear levers are built into one package, and you don’t have to move your hands off the brake levers to change gears.
Pushing the brake lever sideways shifts the gears in one direction. A small lever on the inside of the hood of the levers moves the shifts the gears in the other direction. This makes it easier to change gear quickly and accurately, without moving your hands away from the brake levers.
The lightweight wheelset and alloy components keep the weight to a minimum, while the sportive geometry give you the versatility to use the Aquila is events such as triathlon, criterium racing, road racing & even endurance events.
The Aquila is as fast, comfortable, competent and capable as bikes three times the price. It maintains its outstanding value by using tried and true components from the Shimano range. A bike doesn't need to be cutting edge to give you a competitive edge. It just needs to be a balanced package that lets you step up to the next level of competition.

- Exceptional value for money Review by DN
Price Quality Value
The Kenda tyres that come with it are pretty ordinary and I actually received a puncture during a 30km ride after owning the bike for 3 weeks. My advice would be to swap these out for something better - I went with the Schwalbe Durano Plus for the puncture protection and long-term durability.
I used this bike during the 2016 Amy's Big Bike Ride in Canberra on the 68km course. It was more than adequate and I could actually comfortably ride quicker than others on higher end bikes like Cannondales, Trek, etc. Cat 4 and 5 hill climbs can be done relatively easily but Cat 3 climbs can be a bit of a grind as you can quickly run out of gears - Mt Ainslie (which ramps up to 12% gradient in some areas) was a challenge to complete.
While I have since upgraded to a carbon bike, I still would recommend the Aquila as an excellent entry road bike. I am still using this for commuting to work and it has seem me through some harsh weather (rain, storms, etc) and poor road conditions. Very reliable bike and great value. (Posted on 30/04/2016)

Reid Cycles ships bikes, parts and accessories anywhere in Australia!
Free shipping of bikes is available to most metropolitan and some regional areas. We also combined shipping wherever possible to keep the price down. Once you have one or more items in your cart, view your cart, pop your postcode in and we'll give you the combined shipping price. We are currently unable to ship to overseas addresses, please contact our customer services team to enquire about distributors in your area.
We aim to keep the price as low as possible by shipping smaller items for free if they can be shipped with larger items. Helmets, shoes and parts most often ship for free with your new bike!
Remember that bikes are shipped boxed, and 85% assembled. The final assembly required includes the installation of the handlebars, front wheel, pedals and saddle, adjusting the brakes and tuning the gears. We recommend that the assembly is done by a qualified bike mechanic or other suitably qualified person. Damage caused by incorrect assembly (such as installing the pedals the wrong way around) is not covered by your warranty.
Orders for items that are currently in stock are usually despatched within 1 to 2 working days. You'll receive an email with tracking information once the order has been despatched. Certain periods of the year are seasonably busy, with much higher volumes than normal. At these times, we still aim to despatch within 1 to 2 days, but deliveries may take a little longer due to our couriers' workload.
It's always best to send to an address that always has someone in attendance, such as a business address. You may also want to give our courier an 'authority to leave' instruction, which is an instruction to say that there is a safe place leave to delivery, even if there is no one there to take delivery. Only give us an 'authority to leave' if you're confident that the delivery will be safe. Otherwise, the courier can leave a 'sorry we missed you' card, allowing you to arrange redelivery.
Please contact us if you have any questions.
