Q & A with Hayley Phan, Reid Marketing Intern

Q & A with Hayley Phan, Reid Marketing Intern

This week we sit down with our new Marketing Intern, Hayley Phan at our International Head Office in Poole, England to find out a little more about her, her experience at Reid and what she does to unwind…

So, Hayley, tell us a little about yourself…

Hi! I’m Hayley, I come from Vietnam, a Southeast Asian country. I’ve just finished my master’s degree in Media and Communication at Bournemouth University and it’s my pleasure to be the newest face at Reid

How did you get involved with Reid?

I was in the hunt for a work placement at that time. A Reid job advert appeared as they were looking for an International Marketing Assistant. Reading the job description which included quite a lot of writing, social media managing and campaigns planning, I had a good feeling that this job was what I was looking for. After a couple of interviews, I was offered the role exactly on my birthday! Delightfully, I got involved with Reid in that unforgettable, special way.

What’s been your experience with Reid since you started?

My first impression after my first week at work: Everybody has been genuinely amicable that made me feel absolutely welcomed! The working environment is professional when the team is focused on their job, then during the breaks, we share stuff we are interested in such as some daily news or family stories.

Work wise, I’ve got new tasks to do and new skills to learn every day, which keeps me feel pumped at work. I love working, especially when the job helps open your eyes on new horizons. Even though I’ve got past experience of administering Social pages, the duties that I am assigned at Reid are not similar to that. The new perspective of work gets me excited every working day.

What’s an average day in the life of Hayley Phan?

My alarm clock rings at 6:45, then I have breakfast, prepare myself and ride to work. Since Reid office has just moved to a new place, it takes me around 20 minutes by bike, rather than 10 minutes by walk to the old office. However, I truly enjoy this change as it provides me with physical exercises daily, which gives me a fresh start every morning.

Arriving at the office, I always check my e-mail first, then the to-do list to keep up with what needs to be done for the day. My tasks are juggling between scheduling Facebook posts, creating imagery of various types of bikes, polishing our new Reid website and planning marketing scheme with Kyle – the International Marketing Executive.

That’s pretty much what a marketing intern does for now. More blogging and marketing campaigns await!

So, now the important stuff, what bike do you ride?

I have a Ladies Esprit 7-Speed in metallic blue. Chic, I know! The 7-speed is undoubtedly useful to ride on hilly roads in Bournemouth. To be honest, my bike back home had only one speed, so I had never experienced riding a bike and changing gears. Well, I can say that the bike is another new thing that Reid has offered me.

How do you like to unwind after a week of work?

My weekend can be either relaxing or eventful. Whether I just stay at home, reading, surfing the Internet or calling my family or friends in Vietnam; or I have a gathering with my Vietnamese friends in Bournemouth to cook some home cuisine which we all dearly miss or a day trip to anywhere not far from this sea town.

What do you want to get out of your marketing placement?

The skills and knowledge of the industry are apparently the gems that I wish to possess. As my major at school was PR and communication, all the tasks that I will have conducted at Reid would definitely teach me practical marketing lessons.

Besides, the culture is another aspect that I’d love to experience during my placement. Never had I worked in an international working environment before, hence, I see a multitude of promising and exciting things ahead.

Finally, what advice would you give to none or novice cyclist out there?

Why would anyone not want to ride a bike? It can be a fantastic way to unwind and relax your mind. Cruising across streets under the green trees, feeling the breeze breathing in your hair – don’t you just enjoy that scene? Or, for someone who is more active, a sport bike facilitates you in an adventure to explore all those bumpy winding roads.
