    MTB Mountail bike

Purchased new from Balcatta Reid Cycles for my son's Christmas present. Went to ride it and the gears were crunching and wasnt smooth changes at all. I took it back to Reid Cycles and they said it was normal.....I complained and asked them to review the cogs and gears and they then got a tool out to move a few screws which helped but still isn't perfect.....they said it's how this bike is. You just need to move the gear changer a bit more when you ride until it stops crunching....They refused to look at the bike again.....not ideal, not happy. Thats not how a bike should operate....There is no way the manufacture would make a bike like that. Looking back, I think the workers in the store would be getting paid $30 an hour....Not enough to care about a complaint.

    Hi Brendan,

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review; we appreciate the feedback!

It seems there may have been a bit of a miscommunication here regarding the use of the revo-shift gear shifter, so let me jump in and see if I can help!

On the right-hand side of the bike is the shifter for the rear derailleur-this is what we call 'indexed'. For each 'click' of the shifter, your derailleur will move 1.7mm (Shimano's cable pull ratio for 7spd derailleurs), and will drag the chain onto the next gear.

On the left-hand side of the bike is the shifter for the front derailleur, this isn't indexed like the rear derailleur is! One click does not equal the derailleur moving up one cog. This means that depending on the cogs and the spacing on your front chainrings (which can vary between models), you may need to twist the shifter 2 or more clicks to get it to shift into the next gear!

The revo-shift shifters can be a little confusing at first, but often riders get used to how many clicks are required to shift gears! It's one of many reasons we offer test-rides in store, to make sure you get a real feel for how the bike rides!

If you'd like to go back into the store, I've had a chat with the team and they're happy to inspect the condition of the bike and run through options for an exchange, you might find a bike with indexed shift levers is more enjoyable, with quicker shifting!

Let us know if you need any further assistance.

    Kind regards,

    Lauren

    Everything good but one thing

Set up beautifully, runs great but the front brake pad doesn't adjust properly, it only moves one side which means it either rubs and the wheel doesn't move or I have to untighten the brake so it doesn't work so the wheel will roll

Other then that it's great, been using the back brake
