Find your way to work each day and then get lost on the weekend. Meet the new Reid Granite.
Simply put, Gravel-grinders (AKA All-Road, Adventure Road or Dirt-Road-Racers) are like a CX (Cylcocross) bike built for Endurance riding. The features that make these bikes perfect for dirty distance racing across varied terrain also make them perfect for all-conditions commuting. Is your daily route to work as smooth as a dancefloor..? Neither is ours. Read on:
- A lightweight 6061 Hydroformed Alloy frame and custom Carbon fork with front/rear rack and mudguard mounts plus extra clearance for up to 40C wide tyres. Getting to work or loading up for a weekend of bike trekking? The Granite has you covered.
- The latest Shimano Claris FC-2450 50/34T Compact crankset with an 11-32t cassette will keep things spinning no matter which way the road takes you.
- TRP Spyre C Mechanical Discs which feature a dual piston design for outstanding performance, even disc wear in gritty conditions and easy adjustment when you’re out and about (which you don’t get with hydraulics). Road.cc reckons the “TRP Spyre mechanical disc brakes are the best non-hydraulic road bike and cyclo-cross stoppers we've used.”
- Built to keep going – the Granite runs on Alex MD17 rims fitted with Continental 35C Cyclocross Speed tyres.
All this makes the bike not only suited for dirt road riding, but also perfect for the rigours of a daily commute (with the option of a bit of fun on the weekends thrown in). Believe the hype - these bikes are true all-rounders.
FAQ
The bike looks great… but what exactly is a Gravel Grinder?
Think of it as similar to a CX (Cylcocross) bike built for Endurance riding that is also perfect for all-conditions commuting over distance.
TYRES
Gravel bikes run around a 35mm wide tyre (as opposed to your standard Road bike at 23-25mm). This helps protect against punctures, improves comfort in the saddle and they’ll also leave you less fatigued after riding along bumpy surfaces all day.
GEARING
Gravel creates more rolling resistance so these bikes get more emphasis at the lower end of the range. For the Granite we’ve chosen the latest Shimano Claris FC-2450 50/34T Compact crankset with an 11-32t cassette for solid all round performance.
FRAME
Both Gravel bikes and CX are built tough for harsh treatment, and feature clearance for the bigger tyres and front/rear rack mounts for bike trekking and loaded commuting.
Although similar to Cyclocross bikes, Gravel-grinders feature more relaxed geometry with a slacker head tube angle, a lower centre of gravity and longer tube lengths for a more comfortable ride over longer distances. Cyclocross bikes are designed to accelerate fast and corner quickly at lower speeds, but this can feel a bit ‘twitchy’ on endurance rides along wide open gravel roads.
If you’re looking for the ultimate commuting bike, the question you need to ask yourself is: Do I punch out lots of straight miles or do I ride shorter trips fast while dodging lots of traffic..? If the former, you’re in the right place. If the latter, check out our CX.
BRAKES
Most quality gravel-grinders feature disc brakes as they perform better in all conditions. If you’ve ever ridden to work in the wet, you’ll understand how this translates to a safer commute.

Delivery
Reid Cycles ships bikes, parts and accessories anywhere in Australia!
Free shipping of bikes is available to most metropolitan and some regional areas. We also combined shipping wherever possible to keep the price down. Once you have one or more items in your cart, view your cart, pop your postcode in and we'll give you the combined shipping price. We are currently unable to ship to overseas addresses, please contact our customer services team to enquire about distributors in your area.
We aim to keep the price as low as possible by shipping smaller items for free if they can be shipped with larger items. Helmets, shoes and parts most often ship for free with your new bike!
Remember that bikes are shipped boxed, and 85% assembled. The final assembly required includes the installation of the handlebars, front wheel, pedals and saddle, adjusting the brakes and tuning the gears. We recommend that the assembly is done by a qualified bike mechanic or other suitably qualified person. Damage caused by incorrect assembly (such as installing the pedals the wrong way around) is not covered by your warranty.
Delivery
Orders for items that are currently in stock are usually despatched within 1 to 2 working days. You'll receive an email with tracking information once the order has been despatched. Certain periods of the year are seasonably busy, with much higher volumes than normal. At these times, we still aim to despatch within 1 to 2 days, but deliveries may take a little longer due to our couriers' workload.
It's always best to send to an address that always has someone in attendance, such as a business address. You may also want to give our courier an 'authority to leave' instruction, which is an instruction to say that there is a safe place leave to delivery, even if there is no one there to take delivery. Only give us an 'authority to leave' if you're confident that the delivery will be safe. Otherwise, the courier can leave a 'sorry we missed you' card, allowing you to arrange redelivery.
Please contact us if you have any questions.
Collection
In Store Collection in one of our stores is always free! Your bike comes fully assembly, adjusted and ready to go. You can order online for pickup in store. The store will receive your order, assemble your bike and give you a call when it’s ready to collect! Whenever possible, we recommend collection in store.
