An even faster bike with improved hydraulic disc braking to match - the Urban X2 is a performance bike for the city.

Built on our popular Urban platform but with key upgrades to hydraulic discs, improved drivetrain and wheelset - the Urban X2 is a performance all-rounder for fast commutes, fitness rides or weekend explorations.

This versatile bike is built on a new lightweight hydroformed 6061 alloy frame with internal cabling; and features all the mounts you need to rig your ride with fenders, mudguards and pannier racks for luggage.

A slick-shifting Shimano 27-speed drivetrain gives you plenty of range for climbs and fast descents.

A fast bike needs good brakes - so the Urban X2 is fitted with Tektro hydraulic discs.

Hydraulics offer more power with less lever force required than other systems, which gives better modulation and control - even when conditions are wet.

The X2 sees an upgraded wheelset for improved speed and durability on our less-than-perfect city streets. Puncture-resistant Continental tyres fitted to Alex DC-19 double-wall alloy rims will give years of faithful service.

This bike is available in both unisex or a step-through WSD frame design. WSD or Women Specific Design is an approach to building bikes that considers female proportions to produce a bike more suited to a female rider.

Key Features:

  • Lightweight hydroformed alloy frame with internal cable routing and headset.
  • Fast Commuter bike geometry for confident urban handling.
  • Improved Tektro M285 hydraulic disc brakes for stopping power and control in all weather.
  • Smooth shifting Shimano Acera/Altus 27-speed gearing.
  • Quality wheelset with Alex DC19 double wall alloy rims.
  • Puncture resistant Continental Sport Contact 2 700 x 35c tyres.

Good specs for cost, quality brand name components, easy to service at home. Few errors from store.

I bought my Urban X2 instore and planned to use it as a daily commuter, which I could also leave locked at work all day without worrying about my more expensive road or mountain bikes being stolen, but given the 25km commute, wanted something relatively nice to ride, and was capable of mounting racks and panniers to for the occasional grocery/beer run.

The Urban X2 met all the specs and would have cost similar to buying a bare frame myself, and ordering all-new components to assemble a bike from scratch; Just with much less work and a warranty to boot. I especially like the choice of brakes and gearing used on this bike; Mostly aimed at slower speed cycling, with very low gearing capabilities for beginner cyclists, or all-day cycling on steep terrain.

However, I did spot quite a number of assembly mistakes from store; The rear tyre was installed in reverse, with the rolling direction arrow the wrong way. The rear Deraileur Hanger was noticeable bent from factory, affecting rear shifting performance especially on the smallest and biggest cogs. I ordered plastic mudguards with my bike; These were installed in such a way it was tugging on the front deraileur shifter cable, completely ruining the cable tension and causing poor shifting performance, and that in combination with the front deraileur limit settings being completely wrong, meant my first test ride dropped the chain completely off the chainset multiple times.

Most worryingly, the crank bolt was over tensioned,…
