The City 1 is one of Reid's favourite commute bikes. If you're keen to get to work , the shops and generally take the healthy, cheap transport option, the City 1 is one of the best investments that you can make. At this price, it'll just take a few bus tickets before it pays for itself!

A rigid fork keeps the weight low and the manoeuvrability high, which is perfect for the urban environments.

With powerful brakes, a huge range of gears, wide riser handlebars and both mudguards and a pannier rack, this bike is ready for commuting, touring and all-day adventures on roads, bike paths and sealed trails!

The stop-start nature of urban and off-road riding takes a toll on brakes, so we’ve chosen Tektro V-brakes that are tough, reliable and easy to service. V-brakes allow you to quickly replace or adjust the brake-pads. They also allow you to use a wider range of panniers bags.

The double-walled rims are light, but very tough. The sealed bearing bottom bracket is maintenance free.

The City 1 has everything you need as a weekday workhorse, or a weekend tourer.

Owning this bike for the past 2 months and I can say that it has been a wonderful experience till now right from rocking up at Reid Balcatta, choosing the bike with the support of the wonderful and delightful staff and riding it around Churchlands. Proud to be a Reid bike owner as people keep looking and wondering how expensive these bikes could be. My friends are amazed by the quality. (Posted on 27/04/2016)

I have had my City 1 for about one and a half years now and its doing 7000 km,s it always carrying heavy panniers and most my of its rides are 40 km commutes in all types of weather and roads ,and apart from some small issues in first few months it a great bike.I have upgraded a few parts on it such as new seat and post, tyres and rims, but its still good value for money bike. My partner bought me this bike at the beginning of the year as part of my resolution to be healthy and independent when getting to and from school and leisure rides on the weekend. I can't say enough how smooth and fantastic this bike is, I love it so much I gave it a name!
Between riding to school 5x a week and leisure time the City1.0 does the job and then some. I highly recommend this bike to anyone beginning because nothing puts you off riding like a crummy "first" bike. You won't be disappointed with the value of the bike and the quality service of the staff, so what are you waiting for? Go get one!!

A really practical machine! Review by Artsrider

I have had my City 1 for four months and it gets a 150K round trip usage/ every week. I was convinced by the Reid Staff to buy this model over others in the range and they were spot on. Its not the lightest in its class, or the most specc'd up in equipment, but for value for money and sheer usability its exactly what I need. When the Lycra clad go faster types zoom by I smile, maintain my cadence and know I'll get to work on time, every time. For non-rocket riders like me (I'm 58) The City 1 is pretty much what I will need as a bike for the rest of my life. And I think its well enough made to do just that.

Can it be better? Yes. Fit comfort grips, aftermarket lights, a water bottle and bags and its the perfect bike for city commuting.

Do yourself a favor and look at the City1. You wont look back.

How they make these bikes so good for the price... Really good performance, rides better as narrow tyres so faster than a mountain bike. Better for long distance but the comfort feel of a mountain bike for relaxed riding long distance or just to work. Well done Reid!!! (Posted on 23/03/2015)

Have bought this bike to return to cycling after a long career on motorised two wheels. The bike is solid, well built and suits my needs well. Its got great brakes, a good seat and excellent gear spread.

Not too happy about rust spots appearing after just one rain ride. I expected better these days as my wife Reid was out in the same downpour with no rust at all. Hoping its not going to affect the rest of the bike.

I am using this bike for about 4 months now and really happy with the purchase. The price was good and quality is excellent. I ride about 100+ km a week and its a pleasure to ride the bike. At the beginning there were some loose pannier nuts falling off but it was fixed quickly once I took the bike to the shop. The tyres and brakes are still as good as new after more than 1500kms. I did have to lubricate the chains for a smoother gear shifts. This bike has everything that is needed for city commute and weekend workout. The only thing I would like to change on the bike is the gear shifts. They are not very smooth but gets your work done. Overall you get more than what you pay for :) (Posted on 19/11/2014)
I love riding to work! Review by Mat

I'm commuted with this bike 3x per week 15km each way for over 18mths. I load up the panniers and I love the mudguards. Everything is still going strong and I can't believe how cheap it was. I can leave my carbon road bike at home with no fear of it getting stolen or broken etc. For general riding it's great, but I needed a slightly higher gear ratio for drafting other vehicles so I bought a new wheel set ($45 Reid sale) and a 8sp cassette (11 tooth) for a slightly higher top speed...but most people won't need that. It's the perfect commuter. (Posted on 18/08/2014)

I came in today to buy a bike for commuting to work, small trips to the shops and also for fitness rides on the weekend. I was greeted by friendly and knowledgeable staff who gave me advice and I settled on the hybrid City 1. My size wasn't available on the floor at the time, but within 30 minutes the Reid mechanics fully assembled it from scratch, which was awesome! I took it out for a test ride and it was a dream, the gears and everything were working great. Uphill, downhill, full speed or at an easy pace it was a very smooth ride overall. The Reid staff worked out a fantastic bundle for me that gave me all the necessary accessories like helmet, lights, bike lock, bottle and cage and additional servicing. Overall buying the bike was a very easy and pleasurable process thanks to the wonderful customer service and fantastic prices, I highly recommend them!! (Posted on 10/04/2014)
