The Coo-Wee Ride for Returned Veterans

In May 2017, two boys from Melbourne will complete a charity bike ride totalling 1646kms to raise money for returned veterans. Reid Cycles are proud to support the boys on The Coo-Wee Ride, a cycling adventure from Barmera, South Australia to the Beechworth RSL in Victoria.

Meet The Team

Matt and Adam grew up together in the Dandenong Ranges and lived only a 3km bike ride from each other. There was lot’s of time spent cycling around the neighbourhood, the boys especially loved a ride down to the local store after school for some good old killer pythons.

Now Matt lives in Seymour working on a thoroughbred farm. He loves working with horses in the great outdoors and is a diehard AFL fan. He loves getting out on his bike and catching up with friends. He’s always had a keen interest in Australian history and was particularly touched by the alarming statistics of returned veterans living with the traumas of PTSD. In true Aussie spirit, he was inspired to dig in and do his bit to help out his fellow countrymen and women.

Adam lives in South Melbourne working as a Perfusionist. He’s the adventurous type - snowboarding, rock climbing and cycling are all in his repertoire of outdoor experience. Adam is the logistics man for this ride. When Matt mentioned the idea to him, Adam jumped on board without hesitation.

The boys have a decent amount of cycling experience between them and are excited to be raising money for a worthy organisation by doing something they love.

The Coo-Wee Ride

A two week journey, Matt and Adam will cycle up to 172km per day from Barmera, South Australia to the Beechworth RSL. It’s a big undertaking for the two boys, but they’re not letting anything slow them down in their efforts to support Returned Veterans. They’re most excited about stopping at local RSLs along the route and cycling along The Great Ocean Road. The journey is sure to cross some of the most picturesque scenery both South Australia and Victoria have to offer.

Matt and Adam aim to raise $10,000 for Returned Veterans. You can help by donating through the Solider On Fundraising Platform. Along the trail they will have service men and women ride with them to learn about their lives and how Returned Veterans has supported them.

The boys begin their bike ride in May 2017, and every dollar raised will go to a great cause.

Reid Cycles Support

Returned Veterans receives the majority of their funds through donations from everyday Australians. They encourage members of the community to hold events and complete challenges using their Fundraising Portal. People trek, run, walk and even do burpees, all in an effort to raise money for war veteran welfare.

Matt and Adam will cycle for the cause and Reid Cycles is proud to be supporting them every step of the way. To ensure they complete their epic bike ride, each of the boys received a Reid Granite - the all-terrain, endurance road bike.

Matt’s opted for the standard Continental 700x35C Cyclocross tyres, while Adam has swapped his out for the Continental Touring 700x32C. To make sure our boys look good while they’re cycling interstate, they’ll be proudly sporting the Reid Rider jersey.
