Important Update
If you are buying an Electric Bike in any state or territory in Australia other than NSW then you don't need to read on.
For most of Australia, eBikes must only meet the EN15194 standard - and ALL the eBikes we sell at Reid Cycles (from all brands) meet this standard. You can shop with confidence from our full range.
If you live in NSW however there is an additional certification that must be satisfied. This certification is new and most retailers are still waiting for the documentation from factories and NSW Fair Trading.
Some of our electric bikes are still caught in this regulation backlog, but we now have many that have been granted the requisite certification. This will be displayed on the product page of each model so you know what you are buying. If we say the bike is certified in NSW - you can buy it. The certification information and numbers will be provided with the eBike.

What are the rules for eBikes in NSW right now?
It's not just Reid Cycles impacted by this change. It's any distributor/retailer that wants to sell to NSW eBike buyers.
As part of the rapid overhaul of eBike regulations in NSW, NSW Fair trading requires the full test report for each model - not just the certificate of compliance (which attests to the standards compliance). NSW is now the only jurisdiction in the world requiring this complete test report and producers have not previously been asked to share this information. It will take time to get all information required.
Because our first priority is always the safety and satisfaction of our riders, we are doing everything within our power to comply with these new requirements and all other eBike rules.
This change has affected the entire bike industry. If you are able to purchase an Electric Bike for delivery to NSW from another retailer it is likely they are ignoring this standard. All retailers selling eBikes in NSW should be able to produce a copy of the full test report for the model being sold. Failure to do so contravenes NSW Fair Trading rules.
If you live anywhere else in Australia, you are completely unaffected by this change. We are still shipping our full range of eBikes to all other states and territories as usual.
While this regulation in NSW is a hurdle for the industry, we refuse to take shortcuts. We are doing everything necessary in this space to ensure you don't experience any issues with your new bike.
