We’ve taken our most popular Electric Mountain Bike platform and given it an upgraded, trail-smashing spec at an unmatchable price point.
The new mid-year 2023 release E-Trail 2.0 is a seriously capable Electric Mountain Bike built for performance on Australian singletrack and trails. The geometry has been optimised for fast and smooth control over bigger terrain than our previous models - with a longer reach, lower standover, and shorter stem with a slacker head angle.
Again, this is a balanced eBike with the mid-drive motor unit located in the bottom bracket area and the upgraded 14.5Ah battery discretely integrated into the downtube to let you move the bike around as you take berms and obstacles at speed.
Bigger suspension means the bike can handle bigger obstacles with ease. The new MY23 model E-rail 2 sees a Suntour XCM34 130mm travel suspension fork with hydraulic lock out for plenty of cushion and control as your riding advances.
Powering the ebike is a light and unobtrusive Ananda M100 mid-drive 250 watt electric motor with an impressive 110Nm of maximum torque for plenty of power in tricky pinch climbs and over obstacles. This powerful motor coupled with the Shimano 9 speed drivetrain will give you all the range you need for riding the full hill.
The position of the motor in the bottom bracket area is optimal for keeping the centre of gravity low - for stable handling when descending on fast trails and when navigating technical climbs.
The MY23 E-Trail 2 is powered by an even more powerful, fast charging 36 volt 14.5 amp hour battery pack, internally mounted into the downtube of the frame. This elegant design really lets you feel the bike when riding. Choose your level of assistance up to 25km per hour on the handlebar mounted display unit, and power through up to 100 kilometres on a single charge!
Braking power and control is delivered by proven Tektro Hydraulic Discs. Hydraulics offer more power with less lever force required than other systems, which gives better modulation and control in all riding conditions.
Running on the popular 29er standard rims with Maxxis Rekon 2.4” tyres, this electric mountain bike is ready to go.
Key Features:
- Trail-optimised geometry on a hydroformed 6061 alloy frame with DIB and internal wiring/cabling for a sleek finish.
- Ananda M100 mid-drive electric motor with a punchy 110Nm of torque for powering through pinch climbs and technical sections.
- Fast-charging and large capacity 36V 14.5AH battery for up to 100km range on a single charge.
- Upgraded Suntour XCM34 coil suspension fork with 130mm travel and hydraulic lock out for comfort and control on the trail and efficiency on the climbs.
- Trusted Tektro hydraulic disc brakes for stopping power and modulation control in the dirt and in the wet.
- Shimano Altus 9-speed gearing, shifters and derailleur.
- Grips the trail with chunky Maxxis Rekon 29er x 2.4” tyres.

eBikes FAQ
Q. How far can I travel on a full charge?
The range you can expect depends on how hard the battery is working. This will be affected by factors like the weight of the rider, how much luggage you’re carrying, tyre pressure, hills/terrain, road condition, wind and the level of assistance or power setting you use.
We will list the distance you can expect to ride under ideal conditions in the product details section of each Electric Bike.
As a general guide though, the range varies from around 60km per full charge for our 10.4Ah battery hub motor eBikes, up to 100-120km+ for our Shimano Steps and 14Ah Ananda mid-mount eBikes. The dual-battery system on the KADe can even cover 150km+.
Q. How do I charge an Electric Bike and how long will it take?
Simply plug the charger into a standard wall socket at work or when you get home. To charge the battery from 0% to 80% will take 2 hours, 100% in 4 hours. Most of the time though you’ll just need to top up rather than completely refill. Charging times are similar for the Shimano, Bafang and Ananda systems.
Q. What are the benefits of a hub motor style eBike?
For commuting and touring electric bikes designed for use on roads and paths, rear hub motors offer a more discrete, lighter and more affordable choice over a mid-mount motor design.
Bafang are the largest rear hub eBike manufacturer in the world and growing rapidly in Europe and the US. The motor is light and unobtrusive at only 2.9 kg, recharge time is quick and the range is good. Considering how affordable these ebikes are, a new electric bike now makes a lot of sense for more people.
Q. What are the benefits of a mid-mount motor style eBike?
The mid-mount position offers more options in terms of gearing, smoother acceleration and lowers the centre of gravity of the bike giving a more stable ride over broken ground or when cornering. This benefit is really felt when off-road or riding at speed.
Mid-drive motors are especially preferred by riders looking for more torque when riding (perfect for pinch climbs on a Mountain Bike). Unlike a hub-drive motor, the mid-drive motor directly drives the crank instead of the wheel. This has the benefit of multiplying power and allowing the bike to better take advantage of existing gears.
Q. Can I ride an eBike in the rain?
Yes, all of these units are sealed and made for all-conditions riding.
Q. Can I switch off the motor and ride it like a normal bike?
Yes. Remove the battery pack and it will feel very much like a normal bike.
Q. What does 'Pedelec' mean?
The most popular electric bike system in Australia is the pedelec (or pedal assist) system. You ride a pedelec by pedalling as normal, while the electric motor adds power to each pedal stroke - flattening out the hills and getting you up to speed with much less effort.
Q. How much does it cost to charge an eBike?
It depends on the battery, but as an example:
The Shimano Steps system uses a 418Wh battery. At 30c/kWh x 0.418kWh = 12.5c for a full charge. Costs are similar with the Bafang and Ananda systems.
100km for 12.5c and a fraction of the carbon output of a car. Yes, this is the future of personal transport.
Q. How often should I service my Electric Bike?
The same as we would recommend for any bicycle.
We recommend your electric bike is serviced during the first 3 months of ownership as components bed in. Frequency of servicing after that depends on usage and what maintenance you choose to do yourself in terms of caring for the chain and other basic tasks. A regular rider who does not perform any maintenance may benefit from servicing every 6 months. Click here for more information on servicing.
Q. How can I safely handle and use a Li-ion Electric Bike battery?
Lithium Ion batteries are a powerful technology that have given us handy cordless tools and devices from mobile phones and laptops, to power drills, vacuum cleaners and now electric bikes.
This is an increasingly common power source that is here to stay, and is safe if handled properly. Read our full safety guide here.
